here are some fan theorys about digamma:

It has been theorized that DRX is some kind of psionic effect that alters brain waves, resulting in anxiety and mental illnesses. This would be why it cannot be easily blocked out and why it only affects living entities My theory is that the digamma star is fast approaching earth and is going to cause a nibiru event. Its very large in the sky so we can infer its much closer to earth than distant stars.

DRX is a psychic thing- one of the things that partially cures it is Flunitrazepam (roofies,) and a drug that completely cures it is Enteramine (serotonin.) Perhaps digamma gives you freaking magic nuclear depression that can only be eliminated by drugging yourself with hypnotics or giving yourself artificial serotonin. That didn't really answer it, but pretty sure that it's some sort of cosmic horror (thanks to the aforementioned star) that's playing with our minds and giving us nuclear depression in the progress
